Torchlight Academy

Many times, we only hear about how bad our inner-city schools and African-American students are failing. That's why we need to make sure that the world knows whenever these schools are shining. Torchlight Academy in Raleigh, North Carolina brought us in as a last resort to help bring their scores up from the state's lowest rating. The task was steep with so little time, but their test results just came in and they made some of the nation's most incredible gains and pulled right out of that dreaded failing status that so many of our predominantly African-American schools get labeled with. To hear about the tears of joy from the teachers and the smiles on those students' faces reaffirms why we work so hard everyday to make sure that our inner-city schools are all about excellence! Our kids can ALWAYS do it, just prepare them and believe in them and they will step up every time!

Ingredients for a Godly Family- by Tim Rainey

Corinthians 11:3
3 But I want you to know that the head of everyman is Christ, the
Head of woman is man, and head of Christ is God.

                               Colossians 3: 18-20
18 Wives submit to your own husband as is fitting in the Lord.

19 Husbands love your wives and do not be bitter towards them

20 Children, obey your parents in all things for this is well pleasing
                               To the Lord.

I would like to talk to you about the ingredients of a Godly family
And the Relationships within a family because the world of today has
Forgotten about Gods perfect plan for a family.  First of all we have
A father who is the provider of the family.  One who takes the
Cares of the family upon his shoulder.  He is the one that will go
Beyond his means to protect his family from all harm and danger.

He will stand in the gap and intercede during perilous times.
He is one who will seek Guidance and wisdom from no other but
God. God has put a charge upon his head to be the head of the family
A Christian family.  The husband acts as a filter he filters out all of
The Bad and keeps the good. There is nothing that comes or goes
Own that house that the husband does not know about.

He is to see that the family has food to eat a roof over their heads
Some where for you to lay your heads at night.  The family will
Only go as far as the husband will take it.

He is to love his wife unconditional the Bible say’s if a man loves
His wife he loves himself for no one ever hated his own flesh but
Nourishes and cherishes her just as the lord loved the church. You
Respect her treat her with dignity and ours being understanding and
                                Attentive to her needs.

Wives and Mothers of the family how many of you here today know
That beside not behind but beside every good man there is a virtues
Woman one that shows love when she is being misunderstood.she
Is a keeper a silent watchmen on the wall for her husband.
The wife is that special some one who will be submissive to her
Husband because she understands and acknowledges her husband
Leadership and responsibility under Gods perfect plan for the family

Remember husbands your wife obedience is not from intimidations
But from a humble and quiet confidence, which is the fruit and trust
Of the Lord.  She is one that brings a warm and gentle spirit to her
Husband when he is weary in his soul.

She is a helpmeet. She meets her husband by fasting and
Making all her request known through her Prayer’s when he is weak
In the lord she is strong in the Lord teaching him that patients is
A virtue. She is one whose conversation is always seasoned with salt
That she may know how to answer when spoken to. She is that
Force that is behind the scene.

Children you are to honor thy mother and father so that you may
Have a Long life upon this earth and be prosperous. You are to learn
Of Your mother and father ways which are in Christ.  Parents you
Are Not to due harsh yelling at your children arederiding their efforts

What I mean by that is telling your child that he is just like his
No good daddy or you just like your mother you will never be
Nothing.  Words from some one in the streets is easy to get over
But when it comes from your own family it cuts like a knife.

Words are something that can not be taking back so instead of
Tarring down that child give them words of encouragement.
Remember parents that a teachable child only needs guidance
Not disciplined only a rebellious child needs discipline.  So
Parents train your children in the way that they know that during
They perilous times that they may not stray away from they
                                 Teaching.

Attitudes, the attitude that we have towards Gods is the attitude
That we should have towards our spouse and children. Parents
We can not say that we love each other and six days out of the
Week all you do is argue and fight and then come to church and act
As if everything is all right. Then you just living a lie. We say that

We love God some one that we never seen but hate to go home to
Our family and kids. We must show Godly love at all times because
The bible says that we can have every gift of the spirit but if you
Do not have Love not just a little bit but all of your work is in vain.

So when you take all of these ingredients for a family and
Put them together.  Then we can say my family is lined up with
Gods will in his perfect order.  Not my husbands will not my wife
                                  Will but Gods will.

Then he will honor your family as he said in the bible but only
When you are lined with his perfect will.

Husband love your wives as Christ so loved the church do not be
                                   Bitter to her.

Wives submit to your husband knowing that you have a humble and
                                   God like spirit in you.

Children honor your mother and father so that you may live long
                                   And be prosperous.

But most of all remember the order of the family that the head of
Everyman is Christ.  The head of woman is man and the head of
                                   Christ is God.

That’s How It Was- Nicolas Born

translation from the German by Eric Torgersen

The years came and went
time passed almost unnoticed
a small stop on the road
that leads to us
names names names names
our education continued
after a time in which
it went wrong
the sun rose and set as before
rose in our faces
set behind our backs
the fun ended, mostly
nights were more peaceful
twilight came sooner or later
of course there were difficulties
we had plenty of them
we couldn’t complain that was just how it was
but we were the ones who always
put our shoulders to the wheel
we went through everything all together
there was nothing to be done
we did it just like the others
the fun ended, mostly
and anyway there was no time
when it had gone so far
everything had to go quickly
again years passed
back then there was nothing
some things seemed familiar to us
there were ups and downs as usual
with time a certain
adaptation can be observed
we did something,
it was something
you could live on it for a time
we’d come to see, it depended on that
we’d understood
that had its good and bad sides
that’s how it was

The Winepress Measure -by Rev.M.D. Rogers

(Judges 6:12, NIV)

Gideon, like many of us, doubted his own abilities. He had suffered so many defeats and failures that he even put God to the test--not once but three times.
In the Bible story, Gideon is introduced threshing grain in a winepress, a pit in the ground, so the marauding Midianites did not see him. God appeared to Gideon as an angel and said, "The LORD is with you, mighty warrior."

Gideon prepared a meal for the angel. The angel touched the meat and unleavened bread with his staff, and the rock they were sitting on spewed fire, consuming the offering. Then Gideon put out a fleece, a piece of sheep skin with the wool still attached, asking God to cover the fleece with dew overnight, but leave the ground around it dry. God did so. Finally, Gideon asked God to dampen the ground overnight with dew but leave the fleece dry. God did that as well.

God was patient with Gideon because he had chosen him to defeat the Midianites, who had impoverished the land of Israel with their constant raids.

Gideon gathered a huge army from the surrounding tribes, but God reduced their number to only 300. There would be no doubt that victory was from the Lord, not from the army's might.

When we receive victory over our circumstances we too must know it is because of the Lord’s patients with us. Like Gideon there have been times that we could not see God moving in our lives. It seems we are all alone in the time of trouble, but we must walk by faith not by sight.
